low cost or free CAD Software..?

Hello,
do you know a low cost or free 3D CAD software that could be able to fight with Sketchup...?
I'm doing some little mechanical design, so Sketchup is not really perfect for that, but I didn't find anything better...
the more promising I see, based on OpenCascade, is http://code.google.com/p/heekscad/.

if you know an hidden, but also good one, please let me know..

There seem to be some decent free CAD software. You could probably try other forums than this one.
I recently came across about some promo action by Alibre offering its systems for as small as $99 or so .
